Northwest Sprint Car Association 2008 schedule released

EVERETT — The American Speed Association/Northwest Sprintcar Association announced its 2008 schedule on March 12.

Opening with the Doug James Memorial on March 29 at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, the winged sprint cars will visit six different tracks in three Northwestern states over a 13-race schedule.

Reigning champion Andy Alberdine is expected to defend his title against 2006 champion Jeff Montgomery, Jake Mann, Robert Beck and Jeff Bird, amongst others.

The open-wheel, winged sprint cars of the ASA/NSRA run on paved ovals varying in length from a quarter-mile to five-eighths of a mile, resulting in some of the fastest racing on the West Coast. NSRA drivers hold 20 all-time records at tracks throughout the region.

The ASA/NSRA 2008 schedule is:

— April 26: Don Hein Memorial, Douglas County Speedway, Roseburg, Ore,

— May 17: Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, Wenatchee, Wash.

— May 30-31: Diamond Cup, Meridian Speedway, Meridian, Idaho (note)

— June 21: Casey Diemert Classic, Douglas County Speedway, Roseburg, Ore.

— July 5: Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, Wenatchee, Wash.

— July 26: Art Pollard Memorial, Douglas County Speedway, Roseburg, Ore.

— Aug. 9: Rebel Jackson Senior Memoriam, Ephrata Raceway Park, Ephrata, Wash.

— Aug. 23: Northwest Super Shoe Show, Stateline Stadium &Speedway, Post Falls, Idaho.

— Sept. 13: Rory Price Memorial, Evergreen Speedway, Monroe, Wash.

— Sept. 26-27: Championship weekend 2008, Meridian Speedway, Meridian, Idaho. (note)
