PREP SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Marysville-Pilchuck remain unbeaten

MARYSVILLE — With two standout juniors on the Shorecrest boys swim team, the Scots have reason to be excited about the this season and next.

But the present belongs to the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks, who defeated Shorecrest 106-80 on Thursday.

The meet was highlighted by Marysville’s one one-hundreth-of-a-second victory over the Scots in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

“That was an exciting race,” Marysville coach Scott Knowles said.

The two talented Shorecrest juniors accounted for all the Scots’ victories in the meet. Ryan McMahon won the 500 freestyle relay and the 100 backstroke.

“I think McMahon swam two really good races,” Knowles said.

Erik Ramsey, the other Shorecrest junior, won both the 50 and the 100 freestyle events in what Knowles said were “very close races.”

“Shorecrest swam pretty well, I thought they had pretty good depth and they swam hard. It was a good meet,” Knowles said.

Zach Russell scored a win for M-P in diving, scoring 221.55 points.

“Right now I think we are in pretty good condition and their efforts are really good, but we need some fine tuning on some particular parts of the races,” Knowles said. “The season is like a work in progress and we are right about where we should be.”
