MARYSVILLE — Peter St. Marie had 28 carries for 192 yards and three rushing touchdowns to lead the Panthers to their first victory of the season, defeating Marysville Pilchuck in a Wesco North upset. The Tomahawks had a chance to take the lead with a minute left in the game but they fumbled the bal

l on the goal line and Snohomish was able to recover and run out the clock.

“The kids have been playing hard all season long and haven’t gotten many breaks,” said Snohomish head coach Mark Perry. “We have been in games: 34-30, 17-4, and tonight we played four quarters instead of three and a half. They made big plays when they needed to. There was a fumble recovery following and interception where we scored two plays later, and there was a big stop at the end of the game. It was a great game for the kids … great to get that monkey off their back.”

Snohomish had 45 carries for 252 yards, Marysville had 44 for 230. Colby Merkt had 18 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Marysville was going to go into their game against Lake Stevens next week with a chance to tie for first place in the Wesco North, now another league loss could seriously jeopardize their playoff hopes.
