Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for April 22-28

The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 22-28. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper.

Joy Ayodeji | Sultan | Girls Track and Field

Ayodeji, a senior, turned in what was at the time the third-best mark in the state among all classifications in the javelin when she heaved it 129 feet, 10 3/4 inches in winning the event at an Emerald Sound Conference meet on April 18. She also won the high jump at 4-8. Ayodeji won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for April 15-22 by claiming 331 (40.76%) of the 812 votes.

This week’s nominees

Hudson Cunningham/Dillon Carrell | Shorecrest | Baseball

Cunningham (four innings) and Carrell (three innings), both seniors, combined to throw a no-hitter and strike out 15 batters in an 8-0 victory over Lynnwood on April 25.

Sarah Dyer | Kamiak | Girls Golf

Dyer, a freshman, shot a 38 to tie for medalist honors in a Wesco 4A tournament on April 22 at Mill Creek Country Club.

Carter Gay | Cascade | Boys Soccer

Gay, a senior, scored all three goals in the Bruins’ 3-1 victory over Everett on April 24.

Naomi Limb | Edmonds-Woodway | Girls Track and Field

Limb, a senior, won the 100 meters (12.73 seconds), 200 (26.48) and anchored the winning 400 relay (52.13) and 800 relay (1:48.77) in a meet against Everett and Lynnwood on April 25.

Rubi Lopez | Stanwood | Softball

Lopez, a junior, batted .909 with 10 hits in three games, including two doubles, two triples and two home runs, and also drove in 11 runs and stole five bases as the Spartans went 3-0.

Hugo Ramires | Lake Stevens | Boys Golf

Ramires, a sophomore, shot a 1-under-par 35 to earn medalist honors by one stroke in a Wesco 4A tournament on April 23 at Snohomish Golf Course.

Dylan Scott | Arlington | Boys Track and Field

Scott, a junior, won both the shot put (52 feet, 7 inches) and discus (157-8) at the Big 5 Invite on April 27 at Arlington High School. He also won the shot (51-2 1/2) and discus (140-11) in a meet against Stanwood on April 25.

Jasmine Wijaya | Jackson | Girls Tennis

Wijaya, a junior, recorded three straight-set victories, winning at No. 2 singles against Lake Stevens on April 22, then moving up to No. 1 singles to win against Mariner on April 23 and Cascade on April 26. The Timberwolves went 3-0.
