A watercolor by local artist Hung Nguyen has been selected by the Edmonds Arts Commission as the image for the 2004 Edmonds on Puget Sound limited edition poster.

The Edmonds Arts Commission produces a poster biannually to promote Edmonds and regional artists throughout the state. A competition was held in early October to select the image that best represents Edmonds. Eleven paintings were submitted by regional artists for the juried competition. Nguyen’s poster joins others done by Karran West (1986), Joan Reeves (1990), Donna Watson (1992), Ken Duffin (1994 &2000), Alice Owen (1996), Carol Stecher Jones (1997), and Beverly Fotheringham (2002). The original artwork will become part of the City of Edmonds’ portable art collection. Revenues help support promotional awards to local arts organizations.

Nguyen was born in Vietnam and came to the United States in 1975. After studying art and design in college he worked for Boeing, KIRO TV, KING TV and Walt Disney Internet Group as a designer and illustrator. While he works in a variety of media, Nguyen prefers watercolor for his artistic expressions. His work reflects a sense of peace, tranquility and a perfect harmony between humans and nature. His art is included in private, corporate, and public collections and he is represented by galleries throughout the Northwest.

The poster may be viewed and purchased ($34 including tax) at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. in Edmonds. Call 425-771-0228 or 771-0230 for more information.
