A former firefigher who bought and restored one of the city’s early fire trucks has agreed to loan it to the city for display until money can be raised to bring it back to the city on a permanent basis.

Retired firefighter Ron Barton of Concrete has agreed to sell the truck to the Edmonds Fire Safety Foundation for $10,000 to cover his restoration costs. The Foundation is undertaking a fundraising campaign to come up with the purchase price. The truck will be on display at the downtown fire station through October and will be brought out for promotion at summer events such as the Summer Market. Donations are being accepted in care of “The Fire Truck” with checks made payable to the Edmonds Fire Safety Foundation at P.O. Box 157, Edmonds, WA 98020. So far, $2,600 has been raised. If an individual, business, or organization donates $500 or more, the donor’s name will be inscribed on a plaque to be positioned on or near the truck.
