Jean Hales, president and chief executive of the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, was the first recipient of the Affiliated Associations of America Spirit of Business Award at the business group’s annual awards dinner Nov. 10.
She was honored for her work on Project Concentrus, a plan to merge the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce with the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce and the Snohomish County Economic Development Council.
AAOA President Pat Chestnut said the award was inspired by his late father, who was impressed by “unique individuals who do things beyond themselves.”
Others receiving awards included:
• Howard Chermak of Chermak Construction in Edmonds received the John M. Fluke Sr. Community Service Award;
• Jack Oharah, president of Everett Community College, was presented the Corporate Executive of the Year;
• Rick Ellersick, Big E Ales, received the Small Business Executive of the Year.
