It’s impossible to replace a home field that generated an electric atmosphere like Oak Harbor High’s unique off-campus Memorial Stadium did. But the Wildcats football team will nonetheless begin a new era tonight when it plays its inaugural game at the new Wildcat Memorial Stadium, located at the high school campus.
Oak Harbor, the 2006 Class 4A state champion, plays host to Arlington in the historic contest.
Old Memorial Stadium, with its endearing quirks and often-messy grass field, was Oak Harbor’s home for 60 years, from 1947 through last season. Starting tonight, the Wildcats officially cross the bridge from old to new, from grass to turf. One thing not likely to change soon: Oak Harbor’s reign as one of the state’s top programs.
