Facts about Deer Creek

Deer Creek is a major tributary to the north fork of the Stillaguamish River, joining it at the community of Oso east of Arlington. Some creek facts:

  • Deer Creek is 24 miles long.

  • It has 23 smaller tributaries, including Higgins, DeForest, Little Deer and Rick creeks, for a total of an additional 56 miles.

  • The watershed includes about 67 square miles northeast of Oso, most of it in Skagit County.

  • The watershed is characterized by glaciated valleys separated by sharp ridges and has elevations rising from 200 feet at Oso to 4,900 feet.

  • The area receives an annual rainfall of about 75 inches in the lower part of the watershed to 110 inches in the higher elevations.
