Adults are capable of making decisions

Let me see if I understand this correctly. An illegal firework kills Glenda Lynch’s son, so in response she seeks to outlaw legal, class C “safe and sane” fireworks. Seems reasonable. Thankfully, a majority of Marysville residents realize that, as adults, they are capable of making decisions regarding the safety of their family better than the city or a distraught mother can, and apparently oppose a ban by 2-1.
But wait! Marysville Community Information Officer Doug Buell writes this majority off as a bunch of morons who don’t know what’s good for them – and Marysville City Councilwoman NormaJean Dierck’s reasoning is simple: “I don’t like fireworks.” That’s right. She doesn’t like fireworks. I guess she thinks that’s reason enough to ban something. Most folks don’t.
A sterile world devoid of all risk and excitement might be a wonderful dream to these people, but it sounds pretty boring to me. I’ll take my chances and stock up good at Boom City this year.
