EVERETT — An Everett Alternative School student has been arrested on investigation of felony harassment and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation after allegedly making threats to shoot people at the school, authorities said.
The threats surfaced early in the week, and Everett police arrested the boy on Wednesday, school district spokeswoman Gay Campbell said Friday.
On Thursday, the day the shootings were to take place, Washington State Patrol troopers led a bomb-sniffing dog through the school in the 3500 block of Rucker Avenue, and authorities searched the backpacks of all students, Campbell said. No weapons were found.
Police investigated and said the boy had no access to weapons at home.
The boy’s age and grade were unavailable.
The school expelled the boy and sent a letter home to parents.
"We felt the building was very safe or the students wouldn’t have been there," Campbell said. "It may have been the safest spot in town."
Young girl hospitalized after fall: A 3-year-old girl fell through a second-story window screen, dropping more than 18 feet to the pavement below.
The accident occurred at 4:12 p.m. Thursday in an apartment at 626 Terrace St., said battalion chief Leroy Schwartz of the Monroe Fire Department. The girl apparently was talking to children outside and leaned forward against the window screen, Schwartz said.
She was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was in serious condition Friday with facial and skull fractures.
