ARLINGTON — Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Wednesday night off the roadway in the 17900 block of Jordan Road.
A passerby found the man about 6 p.m. and notified authorities, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. Investigators shut down the road from 7:40 p.m. Wednesday to about 4 a.m. Thursday while investigators searched the scene, she said.
The Snohomish County medical examiner performed an autopsy Thursday, but didn’t expect to make a positive identification until later today.
Detectives released no other details.
Fugitive nabbed: A fugitive who spent more than a decade on the run and was sought by the FBI was caught early Thursday on Sunnywide Boulevard SE by a Snohomish County sheriff’s canine unit.
The man was being sought on investigation of assault and walking away from a work-release program, FBI spokesman Ray Lauer said. The warrant, alleging unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, was issued in 1988, he said.
Lake Stevens police, Washington State Patrol troopers and sheriff’s deputies assisted in the search, which took about two hours and included stopping traffic on Sunnyside. The man eventually led officers on a foot chase for about a half-mile before the sheriff’s dog caught him.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
Man sought in two robberies: Snohomish County sheriff’s investigators are seeking the public’s help to identify an armed robber who struck twice in one day.
On July 22 at 3:24 a.m., deputies responded to a robbery at the Tom Thumb Grocery Store in the 1900 block of S. Lake Stevens Road. The robber displayed a handgun and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. He was last seen fleeing on foot westbound on 20th Street SE.
There were no injuries.
Witnesses described the robber as a white male in his late teens to early 20s, 6 feet tall with a slender build and short, dark hair. He was wearing a cream-colored fleece jacket, sunglasses and a green baseball cap.
About 20 minutes before the Tom Thumb robbery, a gunman matching the same description robbed a Texaco station in the 2600 block of Walnut Street in Everett. A surveillance tape captured his picture.
Investigators ask anyone who knows the robber or his whereabouts to call sheriff’s detective Brad Pince at 425-388-3827 or Everett police detective James Brouwer at 425-257-8503.
