LYNNWOOD — Six people leaving a wedding and heading for the reception were injured Saturday when their car collided with another vehicle.
The injured were two couples and their 12-year-old daughters. One of the trios, a Snohomish County family, was transported to Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, where they were treated and later released, a nursing supervisor said.
The other couple, from British Columbia, were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. One member of that family was admitted in satisfactory condition; the other two were still being evaluated in the emergency room late Saturday night, a nursing supervisor said.
The fathers both were 55; the mothers’ ages were unavailable.
The crash occurred about 2:45 p.m. on 148th Street SW at 44th Avenue W., Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch with multiple injured people. They arrived to find that a westbound car on 148th Street SW tried to pass another westbound car while that car was attempting to turn left, she said. The cars collided and the passing vehicle ended up in the ditch.
No one in the other vehicle was injured, Jorgensen said.
The British Columbia family’s injuries were significant, but were not considered life-threatening, Jorgensen said.
Deputies had to close 148th Street SW while rescuers aided the injured and deputies investigated the crash.
No alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, she said.
"They had been to a wedding and they were going from the church to a wedding party. A happy occasion turned out badly for these people," Jorgensen said.
