Marysville-Pilchuck fends off Everett comeback

EVERETT – Marysville-Pilchuck overcame a determined comeback effort by Everett to post a 15-5, 15-5, 5-15, 18-16 non-conference volleyball victory Thursday.

Marysville-Pilchuck stayed undefeated on the early season at 3-0, while Everett (1-1) dropped its first match.

Stephanie Parker spread the ball well, recording 44 assists and setting up Micaela Parker and Mariko Coverdale, who combined for 28 kills.

“Marysville-Pilchuck is a great team and we shocked them,” Everett coach Heather Burgland said.

Shannon Ulrich led the Seagulls with nine kills and teammate Emily Olson was all over the floor recording 21 digs to keep her team in the match.

Stanwood 3, Mariner 0: At Mariner H.S., Christina Palmer was 21-for-21 serving with six aces and teammate Katelin Parks had 10 kills to lead Stanwood to the 15-2, 15-5, 15-10 non-conference victory. Tirra Campbell had six blocks for Mariner.

Snohomish 3, Jackson 2: At Snohomish H.S., teammates Megan Silver and Annie Grage combined for 31 kills to lead Snohomish (2-0 overall) to the 15-12, 12-15, 15-9, 6-15, 15-13 non-conference victory. Jamie Crockett had 13 kills for Jackson (1-2).

Cascade 3, Shorewood 1: At Cascade H.S., Danielle Selvidge had seven kills and seven blocks to lead Cascade (3-0 overall) to the 11-15, 15-6, 15-13, 17-15 non-conference game. Michelle Dimitrov had 12 kills, 13 assists and 13 digs for Shorewood (1-1).

Kamiak 3, Mount Vernon 0: At Mount Vernon H.S., Kalee Martin had 24 assists and teammate Heather Hetzer added 13 kills to lead Kamiak (1-1 overall) to the 15-3, 15-9, 15-0 non-conference victory.

Lynnwood 3, Lake Stevens 2: At Lynnwood H.S., Trisha Bartlett had 40 assists and Jenna Huston had 11 kills to lead Lynnwood (1-2 overall) to the 13-15, 15-2, 15-10, 14-16, 15-7 non-conference win. Deanna Cooper had 12 kills for Lake Stevens (0-3).

Meadowdale 3, Monroe 1: At Monroe H.S., Jenny Swerk and Lauren Marty Combined for 14 kills to lead Meadowdale (3-1 overall) to the 15-7, 15-9, 16-18, 15-7 non-conference victory. Taylor Thompson and Whitney Mueller combined for 10 kills for Monroe (0-3).

Shorecrest 3, Arlington 0: At Shorecrest H.S., Kelly Herold dished out 12 assists to lead Shorecrest (1-1 overall), to the 15-2, 15-9, 15-5 non-conference victory. Arlington (0-3) was led by Merilee Nyland’s six kills and four blocks.

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Oak Harbor 2: At Edmonds-Woodway H.S., Tiana Roma and Sara Motaghedi combined for 25 kills as Edmonds-Woodway (2-1 overall) came back from two sets down to win the non-conference match 10-15, 12-15, 15-11, 16-14, 15-11. Valerie Hartman led Oak Harbor (1-2) with 34 assists.

South Whidbey 3, Sultan 0: At South Whidbey H.S., Lauren Johnson (six assists) and Jenny Saephan (three kills) led the Falcons (2-0 overall). Sultan is 0-2.

Blaine 3, Lakewood 0: At Lakewood H.S., Carley Hansen had four kills for Lakewood (0-2 overall) in the 15-5, 15-4, 15-6 non-league loss. Blaine is 1-0.

Darrington 3, La Conner 0: At La Conner H.S., Becky Nations had 22 assists and teammate Harmony Perrault had six kills for Darrington (2-0 overall) in a 15-6, 15-8, 15-7 non-conference match. La Conner is 0-1.

University Prep 3, Snohomish County Christian 0: Melissa Kefgen and Beth Kalbfleisch combined to serve 17-for-20 for Snohomish County Christian in its 15-7, 15-4, 15-8 Emerald City League loss.

Cedar Park Christian 3, Bear Creek 0: At Cedar Park Christian H.S.., Ashliegh Salios and Stephanie Miksa combined for 11 service aces to lead Cedar Park Christian to the 15-1, 15-5, 15-8 non-conference victory.

Mountlake Terrace 36, Edmonds-Woodway 48, Stanwood 50, Meadowdale 56: Mountlake Terrace runners finished fourth through sixth and grabbed four of the top 10 places in the Wesco meet won by Meadowdale’s Adam Shimer.

Arlington 30, Shorecrest 36, Lynnwood dnq: Arlington placed six runners in the top 10 to win its first Wesco meet. Shorecrest’s Kevin Hansen edged teammate Pat Hogan for first place.
