Everett boys use charity stripe to beat Marysville-Pilchuck, 83-72

EVERETT – Everett took advantage at the free throw line to defeat the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks 83-72 in a non-conference game.
Everett made 27 of 37 attemps from the foul line and outscored the Tomahawks 26-13 to come back from a 39-35 halftime deficit.
Junior center Sam Worthheimer scored 18 points, including 10-of-13 from the freethrow line and nine points in the fourth quarter. Vesma Sophan added 16 points and was 10-of-12 from the foul line.
“We picked it up defensivly in the third quarter,” assistant Everett coach Jim Anderson said. “It led to some fast break points.”
Marysville-Pilchuck came out hot and ready, outscoring the Seagulls 18-13 in the first quarter and taking a four-point halftime lead.
Charlie Soper scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the first half to lead the Tomahawks. Teammate Nick Harris added eight points before half.
At halftime the Everett High School honored seven former coaches in various sports by inducting them into their Hall of Fame.

Lakewood 84, Sammamish JV 64: Lakewood received a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds from Jake Poeschel as the Cougars defeated Sammamish’s JV squad in the championship game of the 5th annual Lakewood Holiday tournament. Teammate Bret Landman added 15 points and was named the tournament MVP.
Klahowya defeated Concrete in the 3rd-4th place consolation game. Lakewood’s JV squad also claimed the JV tournament title by defeating Sammamish’s C team.

Shoreline Christian 71, Sunnyside Christian 70: Shoreline Christian shocks No. 1 B school Sunnyside Christian in the Oak Leaf Classic. Junior forward Garth Brandal made an 8-foot turnaround jumper in the key with 22 seconds to give Shoreline Christian the first round victory.
Brandal had a career high 33 points with 21 coming in the second half to lead the comeback out scoring Sunnyside Christian 43 to 31 in the second half.
Sunnyside Christian jumped out to a 39-28 halftime lead. Sunnyside Christian was without two-time state B-League MVP junior Lance Denboer.
Shoreline Christian will next face N0. 9 Evergreen Lutheran in the Finals at 5.p.m. today. Evergreen Lutheran beat Bush in the first round 58 to 54.
