Five measures are on a special election ballot today.

The elections affect about 58,000 of the 327,000 registered voters in Snohomish County.

Monroe School District voters will consider $12 million in bonds to modernize Maltby Elementary School, build a new elementary campus and upgrade technology districtwide.

It is the only measure where voters will vote at the polls and by mail. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Elsewhere, the elections are vote-by-mail only.

Bothell voters will decide whether to pass a $14.9 million bond measure to build a civic center facility that would house all city services, with the exception of police and courts.

More than 18,000 voters living in Fire District 8 in the Lake Stevens area must meet today’s postmarked deadline to participate in a mail-in ballot election on whether to increase taxes to pay for a second full-time paramedic team and other improvements.

In the Snohomish area, a proposed paramedic levy in Fire District 4 and the city of Snohomish would replace a levy that provides basic EMT services to the district. The levy would replace a levy first passed in 1986 that funds basic emergency medical technician services.

The levy must be approved by 60 percent of district residents. Last November a levy passed within the city but failed by a small margin in the larger fire district. That meant the entire proposal failed and had to be put before voters again.
