Road closure near Kokanee school

Evergreen Utilities has been granted permission to close a lane of traffic in the Bothell area near Kokanee Elementary School.

The closure will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Feb. 7 at 228th Avenue SE and 57th Avenue SE.

Artist to hold an open house

Artist Tracy Kay Fraker plans an open house at her studio, 9221 Sierra St., Edmonds, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Look for signs at Maplewood Drive and Main Street.

Fraker’s work includes paintings and hand-painted gift items.

Shop and eat at VFW post

A bake sale and crafts fair is planned 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 21, 2711 Oakes Ave.

Youth club holds holiday bazaar

The Alderwood Manor Youth Club plans its 37th holiday bazaar 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Various items will be on sale at the club, 19719 24th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.

Electric Light Parade Saturday

The city presents its 15th annual Merrysville for the Holidays and Electric Light Parade 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday. Because of State Avenue construction, the parade will start at Grove Street and Columbia Avenue and proceed south to Eighth Street, then west a block to State, and end at Comeford Park, city spokesman Doug Buell said.

This year’s grand marshals are crew members from the city’s adopted Navy ship, the USS Ingraham.

Registration is under way for walking and motorized parade entrants. Motorized entries must be festooned with lights and have valid insurance. For more information, call the city parks office at 360-651-5085.

Girl Scouts collect items for mission

Girl Scouts from Mill Creek Troop No. 3131 are collecting new and gently used blankets, pillows, and towels for the Everett Gospel Mission.

A collection box will be available at the Mill Creek Public Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway, Saturday though Dec. 19 for donations.

Chamber offers auction Saturday

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce’s annual fund-raising auction is Saturday at Speedway Chevrolet, W. Main Street and Highway 522.

A silent auction begins at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the live auction begins at 7:15 p.m. The auction, one of two annual fund-raisers for the Chamber, usually brings in about $12,000. There is room for a few more attendees, especially at the after-dinner auction.

Food bank needs contributions

The Mountlake Terrace Food Bank is in need of donations, particularly during the holiday season. There are many opportunities to contribute, with receptacles at the pavilion, library and post office.

The 50th Birthday Committee will be accepting canned and dry food donations at the city’s tree-lighting ceremony at 6:30 tonight at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W.

In addition to canned food, dry food donations such as 5-pound bags of flour and sugar are needed. The food bank is open 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. It serves approximately 200 local families and is operated out of Terrace View Presbyterian Church, 4700 228th St. SW.

Library holds winter crafts day

The Mountlake Terrace Public Library will hold a winter crafts program at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Kids ages 6-12 can join in for an afternoon of crafts, hot cider and cookies. The Mountlake Terrace Library is at 23300 58th Ave. W. For more information, call 425-776-8722.

City grant will

improve codes

The City Council on Monday approved a $30,000 grant from the state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development.

The money reimburses the city for work it has done to update its steep slope, wetland, fish and wildlife, and shoreline regulations.

Santa coming to breakfast

The annual Breakfast with Santa will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Victorian Manor, 610 First St.

The breakfast is $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. Proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center.

Town kicks off holiday season

The eighth annual Skykomish Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Saturday in the town center.

After the tree lighting, Santa will ride into town on a dogsled with gifts for kids.

The night will conclude with a community production of “It’s a Hillbilly Christmas Carol” at the Skykomish School.

Planning panel opens house

The Stanwood Planning Commission plans an open house 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Stanwood-Camano School District board room, 9405 271st St. NW in Stanwood.

The time, date and location have changed from a previous announcement.

The agenda includes a draft preferred land use alternative, along with the open house.
