Arlington: City sponsors ‘Healthy Habits’

The city is sponsoring a “Healthy Habits for Life” class to help people reach and maintain their preferred weight.
The introductory course will be taught by Mary Chesney, a registered nurse and certified nutritionist. The class will give people ideas to get started with healthy diet changes and exercise patterns.
The class will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at Arlington Pharmacy, 540 West Ave. Cost is $25. To register, call 360-403-3448.
Edmonds
Recreation guide is now available
The city is offering the gift of recreation this holiday season. People are invited to register themselves or family members for one of many classes and programs offered in the Edmonds Parks and Recreation Program Guide for January-April 2004.
Classes beginning in January include steelhead fishing, beginning fly tying, calligraphy, ukulele, and Irish dance. Anyone interested can pick up a copy of the “Craze” at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main Street, in Edmonds, or see the program guide online at www.ci.edmonds.wa.us.

Everett
Library fund to be established
The Everett City Council on Wednesday approved a plan to establish a fund for the Everett Public Library within the Greater Everett Community Foundation. Money from the fund will benefit library acquisitions and services.
The library wants to establish the fund within the foundation because the foundation has greater expertise than the library in investing money and in handling bequests and other types of donations, library Director Mark Nesse said.

Drawing classes at Freeland Library
The Freeland Library will offer two drawing classes next week.
The first is a class about Japanese style cartoons at 2 p.m. Sunday at the library, 5495 Harbor Ave. The class is aimed at teenagers.
The second is a class taught by author and illustrator Pierr Morgan at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the library. Morgan will share how she creates her picture books. She will also give tips for how to improve your drawing. Supplies will be provided. The class is for all ages

Iraq history class at senior center
The Lynnwood Senior Center is offering a weekly, monthlong class called “Navigating the Iraqi Maze.”
The class will be held Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon, starting Jan. 16 and continuing through Feb. 20. The class explores the history of the Mesopotamian region, focusing on the geography and people. Dick Anderson, a local history teacher, will be the instructor.

Hazard workshop draws some ideas
A hazard mitigation workshop was held earlier this month provided information to inform the public about natural hazards than can occur in this region and the city’s progress in developing a plan to mitigate hazards.
Three people attended and provided Shane Hope, the city’s planning &development director, ideas for reducing community risks.
Mukilteo
First meeting for ‘04 council Jan. 5
City council president and vice presidents will be elected at the City Council’s first meeting of the year at 7 p.m., Jan. 5. The meeting will also be the first for new council members Jennifer Gregerson, Donna Lansberry and Tony Tinsley.

Auction to rebuild burned church
Lighthouse Christian Fellowship is rounding up items for a benefit auction to help them rebuild on the site where their church burned this spring.
The auction will be from 7 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31 at the congregation’s current meeting place, 7009 265th St. NW, Suites 104A and B (in the mini-mall near Haggen Foods.)

Troop 86 marking 25th anniversary
Boy Scout Troop 86 is asking former scouts and scoutmasters to share any photos or stories they might have to help commemorate the troop’s 25th anniversary banquet in February.
The troop is doing videotaped interviews to make a documentary to show at the dinner.
