The Snohomish Senior Opportunity Center is missing a safe, but members need not worry — there wasn’t any money inside.
The small, plastic safe, a three-hole punch and a paper cutter went missing during a recent remodel at the center. The items were placed in the main meeting room while the office was being refurbished, but then they were gone.
Since whoever has the safe doesn’t have the key, and there are only computer discs inside, center officials hope for the return of the safe and the other items.

If you’re one of the millions of people whose New Year’s Resolution includes losing weight, don’t forget your dairy.
The National Dairy Council’s campaign, "Healthy Weight with Dairy," points to recent research suggesting a link between dairy consumption and reduced body weight. When mixed with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise, studies show calcium plays a role in burning fat.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is including a 2.1 percent increase in the disability benefit payments that millions of veterans and dependents receive at the start of the new year.
