Arts awards: 2004 scholarship recipients from the Arts Council of Snohomish County, as well as the gold and silver placements for portfolio entries for the scholastic art awards, have been announced.
A Young Artist of Snohomish County college scholarship was offered to Madeline Courtney, a senior at Snohomish High School. She will receive a $1,000 award for tuition. The arts council has been sponsoring this scholarship since 1990.
Regional award high school Gold Key winners are: Courtney, Snohomish; Justin Hopkins, Kamiak; Marji Oppegaard, Stanwood; Brittany Rowe, Snohomish Jane Stewart, Snohomish; and Marika Timmerman, Meadowdale, for art. Timmerman also won a Silver Key for photography.
Other Silver Key winners were: Ashley Elgaen, Stanwood; Teresa Ewell, Cascade; Mandi Gum, Stanwood; Kristen Jackson, Stanwood; and Angeline Lazaro, Henry M. Jackson.
In addition, the arts council offered a second scholarship in collaboration with Henry Cogswell College. Timmerman received a $10,000 scholarship to Cogswell.
Honorees will attend an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave.
Legislative page: Sable Mellinger of Lynnwood, sponsored by Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, recently served as a Senate page for one week in Olympia. Mellinger, daughter of James and Karen Mellinger, attends Meadowdale High School. She is interested in government, enjoys playing the guitar and attends school athletic events.
