Junior pitcher was a walk away from perfect game

STANWOOD – The perfect game is acknowledged as one of the hardest milestones to achieve in sports.

On Wednesday, Monroe starting pitcher Ashly Forsberg pitched a no-hitter – but missed a perfect game by giving up a walk in the fifth inning.

The Bearcats’ (1-0 in league, 3-1 overall) 5-0 victory over Wesco North rival Stanwood was Forsberg’s third straight shutout.

Against the Spartans (0-1, 2-1) she recorded six strikeouts and improved her overall record to 3-1.

The Bearcats’ Brittany Overholser and Brittany Bury each went 2-for-3 with two singles and two runs batted in.
