Gymnasts win medals at the Magical Classic

Six members of Mukilteo-based GYMagine Gymnastics won medals in their age groups Feb. 3-4 at the 2006 Magical Classic in Orlando, Fla.
Victoria Batie led the way, winning silver medals in both the vault and the all-around.
Other silver medal winners included Raynie Hultgren (bars) and Julie Kwon (beam).
Bringing home bronze medals for GYMagine Gymnastics were Alina Luong (bars), Courtney Yano (bars) and Sharon Dupree (beam).
Another member of GYMagine Gymnastics, Molly Barger, won the all-around in the Age 11 Division at the Pacific Northwest Invitational held Feb. 4 in Puyallup.
Barger, who finished with a score of 36.80, placed first in the uneven parallel bars (9.30), first in the floor exercises (9.20), first in the vault (9.25) and second on the balance beam (9.05).
Track and Field
Schwerdtfeger sets school mark: Katrina Schwerdtfeger of Western Washington University broke the school record in the women’s mile Sunday at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
Schwerdtfeger, a senior from Mountlake Terrace, finished 29th in a school-record time of 5 minutes, 36.81 seconds.
Martial Arts
Karate students capture seven medals: Four students from the Pacific Karate Organization in Everett combined to win seven medals Feb. 4 at the Sato Cup in Burnaby, British Columbia.
More than 500 competitors, including teams from Japan and Portugal, took part in the event, organizers said.
Vienna Krumwiede, 9, led Pacific Karate with two gold medals and one silver in the advanced division.
Also winning medals were Whitney Lucas, 13 (one gold, one silver in the intermediate division), Tommy MacNaughton, 14 (one gold in the advanced division), and Frank Prochaska (one bronze in the men’s masters division).
