Taliban gunners shoot up police headquarters, killing three Afghan officers

KABUL, Afghanistan – Heavily armed Taliban militants in pickup trucks attacked a district police headquarters Monday and killed three officers, while government authorities killed four suspected suicide bombers.
Two coalition soldiers, meanwhile, were seriously wounded in a suicide car bombing near Kandahar.
The military said that Army 1st Sgt. Christopher C. Rafferty, 37, of Brownsville, Pa., died Friday in Sharana of injuries on July 20 when his unit was hit by small-arms fire. He was assigned to 37th Engineer Battalion, Fort Bragg, N.C.
