Bothell biotech Sonus loses $4.9 million

Sonus Pharmaceuticals of Bothell lost $4.9 million, or 14 cents a share, during the second quarter, compared to a $4.1 million loss in the same quarter of 2005. Expenses associated with clinical trial activity, including a pivotal phase-3 study of Tocosol paclitaxel on breast cancer patients, accounted for the higher loss, according to the company. On the other side of the balance sheet, Sonus posted $7.5 million in revenue from Schering AG, which is a partner on the Tocosol drug.

City Bank board continues dividend

The board members of Lynnwood-based City Bank approved a 20 cent per share cash dividend Wednesday to be paid Sept. 22 to shareholders of record on Sept. 8. The dividend is the 88th paid in the bank’s 32-year history, and was the 72nd consecutive quarterly dividend, bank officials said. The dividend equals the one paid last quarter.

Ford wants to scrap the old gas cap

The gas cap, long left sitting on trunk lids or dangling from cars as they leave gas stations, will become a thing of the past on many Ford Motor Co. models in the coming years. Wednesday the company announced that the venerable cap will disappear on its new 2008 Lincoln MKS full-sized car model, and eventually from all Ford models. Replacing it will be a flap that opens under pressure from the gas pump nozzle. The flap will fit snugly to the nozzle to stop fumes from escaping, company officials said.

Three local firms partner for takeout

Let’s Dish in Marysville, which provides make-and-take family meals, has teamed up with two other local businesses. Silvana Meats will provide meats for the business and Abbi’s Northwest will provide locally grown produce. Theme parks, DVDs aid Disney profits

Strong DVD sales and continued growth at domestic theme parks drove higher third-quarter profit and revenue at The Walt Disney Co. The Burbank-based media conglomerate on Tuesday reported gains in all four business divisions, including its movie studio, which had been lagging of late and last month laid off 650 people in a worldwide restructuring. Shares of Disney fell 15 cents to close at $28.83 on the New York Stock Exchange.
