Save money on Halloween by making spooky party decorations and costume accessories from items found in most kitchens and around the house. With the help of www. livingonadime.com:

Deviled eyeballs: Put a green olive with a pimento in the center of a deviled egg for an eyeball.

Radioactive juice: Mix Mountain Dew and blue Kool-Aid.

Fake blood: Mix two-thirds cups white corn syrup, 1 tsp. red food coloring, two or three drops of blue food coloring to darken and one squirt of dish soap to help the blood run well.

Brains: Scramble eggs with some green, yellow and blue food coloring.

Spider webs: Pull out the tape from some old cassettes or use black yarn.

Guide ready for historic homes

“Your Old House Historic Preservation Resource and Design Guide” will be available at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser Room, Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave., Everett.

Homes and neighborhoods in Everett have many architectural styles. The new guide is meant to assist those preserving historic homes or building in historic neighborhoods.

The $3 guide focuses on three architectural styles – colonial revival, craftsman and American foursquare. Several guest speakers have been invited.
