Bikers meet for breakfast social

The King’s Riders are holding a breakfast social at 8 a.m. Saturday Eagle Crest Restaurant, 21102 67th Ave. NE. The King’s Riders is the Snohomish County chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Among other things, the group plans to discuss the upcoming King’s Riders Potluck &Auction.

Bothell

College literary magazine cited

Cascadia Community College’s literary magazine, Wetlands Review, has won the Small College Award in the Pacific-Western region of the Community College Humanities Association Literary Magazine Competition.

The magazine is published annually and is distributed on campus free of charge. The 2006 Wetlands Review, published in the spring, featured 65 poems, stories, photographs and other artworks created by members of Cascadia Community College.

Edmonds

Rock club plans annual show

The Maplewood Rock Club is planning its annual Rock and Gem Show for Nov. 11 and 12.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the club’s clubhouse, 8802 196th St. SW, Edmonds.

Demonstrations, special exhibits, kids’ activities and a pancake breakfast on Sunday are planned.

Everett

Big birthday for Everett Theatre

History buffs are throwing an informal 105th birthday party for the Everett Theatre at 1 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium of the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

Regional historian David Dilgard will show old photos and tell stories about the theater’s colorful past, using some vintage movie footage and even some recordings from legendary figures who once graced the stage.

Dilgard said the event will be a very informal gathering, admission is free and birthday cake will be served.

Everett children’s museum honored

Everett’s Cultural Commission announced Thursday that the Imagine Children’s Museum is the recipient of the 2006 Richard Wendt Award of Excellence.

The award is presented each year to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to cultural arts in Everett.

A ceremony is planned for 6 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Monte Cristo Hotel ballroom, 1507 Wall St., Everett. The award ceremony coincides with the 5 p.m. Snohomish County Arts Council’s Holiday Show opening in the hotel lobby. The public is invited to attend both events.

In 1998, Everett orthodontist Dr. Richard Wendt and his family established a fund with the Greater Everett Community Foundation to permanently honor outstanding leadership and service in the Everett arts community.

Down syndrome musicians to play

Voices of the Village, a nine-piece Everett band with jazz and pop influences, will play at 5 p.m. Saturday at Zippy’s Java Lounge, 1804 Hewitt Ave. The members of the band have Down syndrome and play cover tunes. Call Marilyn Rosenberg at 425-258-4940 for more information.

Lake Stevens

$5.5 million grant to senior housing

Hawkins House, an affordable senior housing project near Frontier Village, has been awarded a $5.5 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell and Rep. Rick Larsen announced the grant money Thursday.

The 40-unit building, named for long-time Lake Stevens resident Helen Hawkins, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008.

Annual crab feed will benefit Lions

The Lake Stevens Lions annual crab feed is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at North Lake Middle School.

For $20, people get all-you-can-eat crab.

SmileMobile will visit school

The SmileMobile, a fully equipped mobile dental clinic, will be at Cedar Valley Community School, 19200 56th Ave. W., from Nov 6-17.

The SmileMobile provides dental care to children from low-income families. It accepts medical coupons. Fees are based on a family’s income.

Eagles holiday bazaar is Saturday

The Lynnwood Eagles are planning their holiday bazaar for Saturday.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lynnwood Eagles Hall, 19223 Highway 99.

The public is welcome. Gift items, crafts and baked goods will be on hand. Breakfast will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dinner, dance to benefit children

The 13th annual Santa Hop and Auction to benefit the Forgotten Children’s Fund is scheduled for today.

Dinner is planned for 6:30 p.m. and the auction for 7:30 p.m. at The Manor, 13032 Admiralty Way.

The event includes dinner, dancing and a no-host bar. The cost is $25 per person, 21 and older.

Floats for holiday parade needed

Marysville Parks and Recreation is seeking parade entries from area businesses, groups, organizations and churches for “Merrysville for the Holidays,” the city’s annual celebration.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2 with an Electric Lights Parade.

Organizers say it is easy to create a float. Parade entries can be motorized or on foot.

Cost to enter is $10.

The parade will begin at City Hall and continue on State Avenue to Fifth Street.

Kamiak classroom hearing Thursday

The Mukilteo Hearing Examiner is scheduled to take public comment Thursday on a plan by the Mukilteo School District to add three modular classroom buildings and a driveway to Kamiak High School.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

A hearing on a preliminary plat application to create six single family residential lots on 21/2 acres in the 1000 block of Campbell Avenue is also scheduled.

Snohomish

Volunteers plant vegetation

On Saturday, volunteers and four city of Snohomish Parks Department workers planted more than 2,000 trees, shrubs and native bulbs to help improve water quality in the Blackmans Lake watershed in the city.

Volunteers included Snohomish Park foundation members, families, businesses, teen groups, cub scouts, teachers, environmentalists and lakeside residents concerned about their lake. They donated 148 hours of labor for the planting project.

Snohomish County

Councilman joins state freight panel

Snohomish County Councilman Dave Gossett was named by Gov. Chris Gregoire to a panel of officials who review freight routes.

Gossett will serve on the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board until 2010.

The board makes recommendations to the governor and Legislature on projects to improve freight mobility, designates strategic freight routes within the state and evaluates applications for freight mobility funding.

Stanwood

‘Concerts at the Floyd’ continues

Bellingham musicians Eric Kean and Andrea Rose are scheduled to perform as part of the “Concerts at the Floyd” series at 2 p.m. Nov. 12. Kean, a violist, and Rose, a pianist, are planning to play at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center. Photographer Kent Baker is also expected to display his work.

The Stanwood Area Historical Society is the host for the event, which is funded in part by the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation. Tickets are $15 and should be available at the door. For more information, call 360-629-6110.
