Today is Veterans Day. Here are some closures:

Government: Federal, state and most local offices are closed.

Post offices: Closed, but Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses are open, but most banks are closed.

Transportation: Buses and ferries are on regular schedules.

A program that helps low-income veterans in Washington state get federal health benefits and matches state beneficiaries with a national registry has moved to a new home within the Department of Social and Health Services’ Medicaid operation.

Since it began, the Veterans Project has helped more than 300 veterans who are long-term Medicaid care recipients get increased Veterans Administration benefits.

In an Oct. 31 proclamation, President Bush called upon everyone to observe not only Veterans Day, but also National Veterans Awareness Week, which runs through Sunday, with ceremonies, flags, commemorative programs and prayer.

Current and prospective Everett Community College students are invited to attend “College Palooza,” a daylong advising fair set for Tuesday at the school, 2000 Tower St., Everett.

Program advisers will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. for one-on-one advising. Students also can learn about scholarships, financial aid, university degree programs, online courses and degrees, student activities, and other college information.

Tours and workshops will also be offered.
