Pearl McCarty of Edmonds has been recognized as a “caregiver of the year” by Home Instead Senior Care. She works from the company’s Lynnwood office to help seniors live longer in their homes. A college-educated former truck driver and the mother of six children, McCarty was recognized for her caring relationships with clients.
Tekle Eysadik, a registered nurse at Life Care Center of Bothell, is headed to Panama on Feb. 19 for charity work sponsored by the company. Eysadik won an employee drawing to be able to make the trip on behalf of Operation Christmas Child and Samaritan’s Purse. He will help distribute gift-filled boxes in villages in Panama.
Charlotte Walther, procurement and contract administrator for the Port of Everett, has earned the designation of certified professional public buyer. The certification honors individuals in the public purchasing profession. Walther has been with the Port of Everett for eight years.
Lori Belknap and Amanda Clark have been hired as administrative assistants in the Lynnwood office of Sparling, a specialty electrical engineering and technology consulting firm.
Tina Smith, Tom Rovik and Erin Lovell have received promotions at the Everett TOP Food &Drug store, 1605 SE Everett Mall Way. An Arlington resident, Smith is the new store manager. She has 18 years experience in the grocery industry and has been an award-winning Haggen Inc. employee since 1999. Rovik has been named center store manager. He recently returned from service in Iraq with the National Guard. Lovell, a Marysville resident, is the new perishables manager. She started with the company as a garden clerk in 2001.
Chris Hurley, Maury Hood and Debbie Torget have new positions with Goosefoot Community Fund on South Whidbey Island. Hurley will serve as the organization’s chief executive officer and Hood as its real estate projects manager. Torget has been promoted to chief operating officer.
Mattew Tukey of Everett has joined PRAGMATEK Consulting Group, a business improvement and software solution company, as its new senior consultant specializing in software implementation. Tukey was an information technology specialist for IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers prior to joining PRAGMATEK.
Dr. Eric Batson has been hired as vice president in charge of clinical development at MediQuest Therapeutics of Bothell. Batson worked previously at director of clinical affairs and of biometrics for SONUS Pharmaceuticals in Bothell.

Kristie Dutton, Karen Dal Cielo, Jennifer Markley and Ron Singh have earned promotions and appointments at Frontier Bank. Dutton, an Everett School Board member, is a loan officer at Frontier’s Monroe office. Dal Cielo, with the bank for eight years, is now operations officer at the company’s downtown Everett office. Markely, also with the bank for eight years, is now a real estate loan operations officer in Everett. Singh has been appointed to consumer loan officer at the bank’s central lending department in Everett.
Lara Davidson has joined CareForce, a homecare and geriatric care management company, as its financial manager.
Sharon Vanderveen, Rose Brown, Mariamma Njie-Green, Jackie Burns, Naffie Sanyan, Lila Lama Ghising, Patience Njie and Jessie Sylve received awards at the recent CareForce annual meeting and “Caregiving Celebration” in Lynnwood. Vanderveen and Brown are caregivers of the year. Njie-Green, Burns, Sanyan and Ghising earned an award for coordination of home care to a single client and Sylve and Njie received the live-in caregiver award. The company employs more than 100 registered and certified nursing assistants.

The Everett-Afternoon chapter of LeTip International is seeking new members. The group focuses the exchange of experiences and the development of business communication skills to foster business growth. The chapter meets 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at Mitzel’s American Kitchen, 303 128th St. SW, Everett.

Good deeds
Pacific Ridge Homes has donated $5,000 to the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank for its Feed the Need auction set for March 24 at the Camano Island Senior and Community Center. The fundraising event will include the auction of items such as sailing lessons, sporting event tickets and a wine-tasting party. Pacific Ridge Homes has given previously to the YMCA, Snohomish County Search and Rescue, Special Olympics and Lake Stevens Family Support Center.
Garlic Jim’s Famous Gourmet Pizza has formed a partnership with the Putnam Foundation, a group that raises money to provide children a better access to youth sports programs in the region. On Tuesdays through the end of February, medium and large pizzas from Garlic Jim’s will be $2 and $3 cheaper. Garlic Jim’s plans to donate the customers’ savings to the Putnam Foundation.
House of Bread at the Mill Creek Town Center is contributing $1 to the American Heart Association for each loaf of honey whole wheat bread sold in February. The bakery sold 100 loaves of honey whole wheat bread during the first week of February. The goal is to raise funds for research and education to pass along information about heart disease and stroke. The bakery is located at 15224 Main St., Suite 105, Mill Creek. Verathon Inc. sponsors two scholarships through the International Volunteers in Urology Traveling Resident Program. The program allows residents to accompany a mentoring urologist overseas, where the teams teach urologist procedures to local surgeons and physicians. This year the program will send teams to Tanzania, the Dominican Republic and Mozambique. Urology residents interested in applying for the scholarship can visit www.ivumed.org for more information.
