Spend your weekend on Earth

It’s Earth Day weekend. Some good ways to celebrate from today’s A&E section before you recycle it:

Several good movies open today, but Robert Horton says “In the Land of Women” isn’t one of them (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/20/100ae_ae10women001.cfm). Freshly dumped, Adam Brody visits his grandmother’s house. Hugs ensue. You’ve been warned.

“Vacancy” and “Fracture” (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/20/100ae_ae7fracture001.cfm) look like decent thrillers, but if you really want something to freak you out for Earth Day, rent “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Next up is the Seattle Poetry Festival, where you can listen to nearly nonstop talk all weekend from poets, musicians, actors and other artists

Things wrap up with Whidbey Island’s Earth Day celebration on Sunday (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/20/100ae_ae14earth001.cfm). You’re encouraged to bring pine cones and flower blossoms for a community project. There’s no guaranteeing your safety if you bring your Humvee.

The Mariners lost again Thursday (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/20/100spo_d7m001.cfm), and with Felix Hernandez out for a couple of weeks, things look a little bleak.

There are plenty of good seats available on our Mariners bandwagon. It’s fueled by 100 percent Earth-friendly optimism, but we’re running a little low.
