Lake Stevens Mayor Vern Little is scheduled to officially launch his election bid from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Larsen Financial Services Building, 2008 123rd Ave. NE, in Lake Stevens. Refreshments will be served.

Little was appointed in November by his fellow City Council members to replace Mayor Lynn Walty, who left the job with a year left in his term. Little began his term on the City Council in 2004 and served as council president in 2005.

Little, a 30-year Boeing employee, currently works as senior quality manager for the 767 program. He has lived in Lake Stevens for 17 years, where he was active in the Lake Stevens Junior Athletic Association for 13 years, including president for three years.

He also coached baseball, basketball and football and was a volunteer referee.

Little and his wife, Kathy, have four children and two grandchildren.

County assessor’s only opponent leaves race

Incumbent county Assessor Cindy Portmann is running unopposed for her second term after her sole opponent withdrew from the race this week.

Jason Marley of Bothell told elections officials to remove his name from the race on Monday.

Incumbent Bothell Councilman Mark Lamb is in a three-way primary for city council position 6.

Justin Everett Gillebo and David Vliet filed for election in King County. Word of their filing didn’t reach Snohomish County election officials until late Friday night and the two were later added as active candidates.
