FBI investigates Lynnwood official

LYNNWOOD — A Lynnwood police official is under investigation by the FBI, but agents aren’t talking publicly about the focus of the probe.

The case appears to involve federal prosecutors and perhaps a grand jury.

“We do have an investigation regarding the Lynnwood Police Department,” FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs said Wednesday. “It’s a pending investigation and we can’t comment further.”

Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions declined to offer details.

“Any media requiring information about the FBI investigation into a Lynnwood police official” should contact the FBI or city attorney, she said in a message left on the police department’s answering machine Wednesday.

Lynnwood city attorney Michael Ruark refused to speak about the investigation.

“I’m not going to comment until there is some resolution by a grand jury,” Ruark said.

He added that no one from the city is authorized to speak about the case.

Federal prosecutors often use grand juries to investigate public corruption cases. The juries examine evidence and accusations against people. They also determine whether sufficient grounds exist to bring federal charges.

Officials connected with the case said some documents about the investigation could become public as early as today.
