Large tree blocking U.S. 2 both directions near Index

INDEX – A large tree fell across U.S. 2 this afternoon and was blocking both directions of the highway just west of Index.

The tree also crashed down on some live electrical wires.

Emergency crews reported at 2 p.m. that traffic is backed up about a quarter of a mile in both directions. Drivers are being rerouted around the area.

No one has been reported hurt by the falling.
