Granite Falls: Series promotes literacy

Stories, songs, rhymes and crafts are part of the Preschool Parade series on Mondays at the Granite Falls Library to promote early literacy.

Children ages 3 to 5 can practice their reading skills from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Monday and Jan. 7, 14, and 28 and Feb. 4 and 11 at the Granite Falls Library, 815 E. Galena St. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Marysville: Dances for fathers, daughters

Tickets for the city of Marysville’s third annual Father-Daughter Valentine’s Dance go on sale Jan. 11.

The dance this year takes place at two times on two nights, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 2 and the same times on Feb. 9.

The dances will be held at the Cedarcrest School Cafeteria, 6400 88th St. NE.

The dance is designed for all ages. Tickets are available for $12 per couple, $3 each additional daughter and may be purchased at the Parks and Recreation Office in Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Road.

Stanwood: Workshop on aid planned

A workshop aimed at helping college-bound students find financial aid is planned for noon on Saturday at the Stanwood Library.

Doug Breithaupt of the College Planning Network is scheduled to lead the workshop. He plans to cover merit-based scholarships and other financial aid sources. The event is free.

The Stanwood Library is at 9701 271st St. NW.

Stanwood: Meeting about sex offender

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is planning a community meeting about a registered sex offender living in the 33000 block of English Grade Road.

The informational meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Freeborn Fire Station 96 at 3231 300th St. NW.

The sex offender has been convicted of first-degree child molestation, communication with a minor for immoral purposes and indecent liberties.
