Edmonds: Children’s playtime at library

Parents can sing and play with their young children at an event planned by the city of Edmonds.

Wiggles &Giggles is scheduled for 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 12 at the Edmonds Parks &Recreation building, 700 Main St.

The class is intended for children ages 8 months through 20 months. Activities include dancing, chasing bubbles and playing with a parachute.

Lynnwood: Learn to start a business

People who want to learn about starting and managing a small business can attend workshops at the Lynnwood Library.

The free workshops are scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at the library, 19200 44th Ave. W.

Seattle SCORE Chapter 55 has helped plan the event.

Mill Creek: Comment on shopping center

An open house for people to comment on plans to build a new shopping center in the northeast part of Mill Creek has been scheduled for Thursday.

The open house to discuss the East Gateway Urban Village is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek City Hall, 15720 Main St.

City planners are expected to evaluate the comments as they draw up the master plan for the shopping center, which is planned to resemble the Mill Creek Town Center.

Monroe: Presentation on Japanese maples

The Monroe Garden Club plans to have its regular meeting at 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at Monroe United Methodist Church, 342 South Lewis St.

The speaker is master gardener Peggy Geiger, who will present information on Japanese maples.

The club originally planned to have a different speaker who planned to present a slide show of photos from a garden tour of South Africa. But that has been changed.

Mountlake Terrace: Grants for nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations have until the end of this month to apply for community grants through the city of Mountlake Terrace.

The city has $12,500 in grant money that will be distributed by a subcommittee of the City Council. Grants are usually allocated at the first meeting in March.

Groups that are interested must submit an application that includes an explanation of their programs or events and why they need financing and detailed information about their budgets.
