SEATTLE — Gov. Chris Gregoire is asking the Legislature to spend $3 million for more apprenticeship programs in aerospace and new technology.

In a speech prepared for delivery Tuesday at the Machinists Union hall in south Seattle, Gregoire says the programs are needed to help build a skilled work force.

Washington currently has 14,500 people in apprenticeship programs, up from 8,500 two years ago.
