Mill Creek

Comment on zoning for shopping center

People can comment on the land-use designations for a new shopping center in northeast Mill Creek at a public hearing.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Main St.

The proposed shopping center, referred to by city planners as the East Gateway Area, is currently zoned as community business. The city wants the 50-acre area to be developed in a way similar to the Mill Creek Town Center.

Library closed for carpeting this week

The Mill Creek Library is scheduled to be closed through Sunday while workers install new carpeting.

The library, at 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway, is scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. Feb. 11.

People will not be able to use the book drop at the library while the carpeting is being installed. People who need to return books from the library can take them to any Sno-Isle library branch.

Books and other materials that have been placed on hold will be available when the library reopens.

Marysville

City to discuss federal road improvement grant

The Marysville City Council plans to discuss a $2 million federal grant for road improvements at its meeting tonight.The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

The city has been granted $2 million to widen State Avenue from 136th Street NE to 152nd Street NE. So far, the city has received $614,000 for engineering from the grant. The City Council will discuss a measure to bill the federal government for the remaining $1.4 million.

Work on the project is expected to begin in May.

Mountlake Terrace

Council names Rick Ryan as new member

A 23-year resident of Mountlake Terrace has been appointed to fill an open seat on the City Council.

Rick Ryan, a fourth-grade teacher in the Mukilteo School District, was named to the council to replace former Councilwoman Angela Amundson. He is scheduled to be sworn into his position at today’s 7 p.m. City Council meeting.

Ryan owns Rock-It-Music in Mountlake Terrace and has volunteered for the city’s Recreation and Park Commission, the Tour de Terrace and the Terrace-Brier Lions Club. He is also a scoutmaster for a local Boy Scouts of America troop.
