50 years ago (1958)
“An American Tourist in Moscow” was the title of Martha Yorkston’s talk before the Everett Woman’s Book Club in the Masonic Temple. Yorkston, a speech and English teacher at Everett Junior College, had toured Europe as a member of the Alex Dreier party, and was admitted to many unusual places.
Featuring a film and a talk by two boys, the Everett Kiwanis Club observed Boy Scout Week during its regular meeting at the Elks Home. The motion picture was of the 1957 Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pa., and the talks were presented by John Pierce of Everett and Rollie Halvorson of Marysville.
25 years ago (1983)
Ex-Marine Alan May said it had been some time since his name was in the Herald’s “Notebook” column. He earned the honor by talking to other former Marines, Jim Perin and Patrick Harrison, who were drumming up interest in a reorganized Marine Corps League in Everett.
Dave Lewis had been with Dwayne Lane’s Walsh Platt Motors for 29 years. Now general manager, he was responsible for the service department’s policies, procedures and customer relations. In the absence of the owner, he was responsible for managing the firm.
