50 years ago (1958)
Fire Chief Frank Schroeder and Commissioner of Safety Arvid Johnson watched a demonstration by firemen of a new resuscitator acquired when the department began outfitting a new emergency service car. Demonstrating were Capt. R. Ludwig, Emory Thorinson and Dick Sanford.
South of the city, the newest addition to Everett School District, a junior high school (Evergreen), was beginning to take shape. The cleared track was west of woods along Highway 99, south of Beverly Drive (75th Street), and east of Beverly Lane. Newland was the contractor. The overall cost was $1,302,000.
25 years ago (1983)
Chris Feather, 10, of Everett, and Lance Kuempel, 9, of Stanwood, were named Royal Rangers of the Year by the Mount Baker section of Royal Rangers, a Christian boys’ organization. Chris and Lance would join two other youngsters from Sedro-Woolley to represent the section in district competition next month in Yakima.
Del’s Garden Center had a special on 7-foot weeping willows for $14.99. They also had sales on camellias, dogwoods, rhododendrons, forsythias, lilacs, roses and all kinds of fruits and vegetables. Del’s was at 10310 Highway 99, Marysville, two blocks north of El Toro’s.
