Western Oregon sprinter Ashtin Mott was honored on March 27 as the track and field male freshman of the year by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Mott, a Lake Stevens High School alum, received four of eight first-place votes by conference coaches and edged Jordan Welling of Western Washington 19-16.

“Ashtin is just beginning to mature as a sprinter,” Western Oregon male track coach Mike Johnson said in a school press release. “He is working on his strength and durability, and has the potential to be a very quality sprinter for us in this conference. He brings a good work ethic to the team.”

Mott won both the 60 meters (7.02) and 200 meters (22.16), setting a meet record in the shorter distance, in the conference meet.
