50 years ago (1958)
Dominic Soriano’s fifth graders at Emerson School were presenting the fairy tale play, “The Proud Princess.” Nancy Smithson had the starring role. Others in the first act included Carol Frank, Orville Whitney, Steve Eisenman and Rodney Eide. Technical assistance was being given by R.C. McIntyre.
Longfellow School was mighty proud of having produced two winners in the recent Science Fair at Everett High School. The roller belt and gear entry of fourth-graders Blair Mulholland and Ronnie Campbell, students of Ruth Chandler, took top award as did the electrical projects of Steven Elledge and George Bornkamp, fifth-grade students of Milton Kelso.
25 years ago (1983)
Scott Sherman, a Cascade High School student, was a mathematics contestant in the Washington State University scholarship competition and was among 34 of the state’s top scholars taking part in a recent two-day program a the WSU campus in Pullman.
Flora Kitchen reported finding a balloon in her Seven Lakes area pasture that carried a note identifying it as from first-grader Michael Crawford of Seattle’s Echo Lake Elementary School. The note instructed the finder to contact the newspaper, so she did.
