50 years ago (1958)

Goldie King, a prominent businesswoman in the area for a number of years, announced her association as a real estate saleswoman with Bennett Realty, located at 20017 Highway 99, Lynnwood. King specialized in business opportunities in the Everett area and surrounding territory. She had been engaged in several past enterprises and spent 25 years with the Everett J.C. Penney store.

Free bowling, shoe rentals, baby-sitting service and coffee were available for women at Broadway Bowling Lanes. Ernie Miller was the instructor. Ladies could register in person or by phone.

25 years ago (1983)

Taking part in a multinational peacekeeping effort in the Middle East were Marine Cpl. Jimmy F. Maynard of Everett, a member of an amphibious unit in Lebanon patrolling East Beirut; and Army Pfc. Gordon C. Buttke of Snohomish, part of an airborne unit operating checkpoints and observation posts in the Sinai.

Mukilteo fire chief Roger Stam grabbed a deep breath after battling a fire in the smoky attic of the Hideout Tavern, 21 Park Ave. The blaze started in a storage closet behind the bar and spread to the attic and roof where most of the damage occurred. Business owner Ed Allison was able to escape safely.
