Leading Edge sweeps gymnastics meet

Everett’s Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy swept up the competition at the 2008 Washington Optional State Championship held March 28-30 in Auburn.

Leading Edge gymnasts won individual titles in all four levels of competition, and LEGA teams won titles in three levels.

Led by Kelsey Morris and Jordan Widener — who recorded overall wins in Level 10 and Level 8 respectively — 13 LEGA gymnasts qualified to represent the state against athletes from Hawaii, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska at the Region 2 Championship.

In Level 10, Morris placed first overall (38.100) in the Junior A division after winning the vault, bars, beam and floor events. Kailie Ponto was second overall (36.650).

Widener finished first in the Senior A division of Level 8 with 38.350 points, winning the vault and floor events. Jazrelle Kellough was second in the Junior A (37.850).

In Level 7, Samantha Podlucky was first overall (37.750), recording second-place finishes in the vault, bars and floor competitions. Danielle Wilson was third overall (37.375) with a first in the floor event. Tasha Del Pozo won the 13 and older division (37.875) with first-place finishes in the bar and floor events.

Madison Podlucky finished first in the Junior B division of Level 9 (37.450) after placing first in the vault and floor events, and tying with Lily Gaffney for first in the bars. Gaffney placed second overall (37.00), adding a second in the floor event. Carah Solemsaas finished third (36.375) in the Junior A division.
