I-5 lane closures in Everett start tonight

EVERETT — Drivers are expected to encounter nighttime lane closures on southbound I-5 in Everett, starting at 7 p.m. today, state officials said.

Crews are scheduled to start restriping the freeway to open a new 2.5-mile-long carpool lane between U.S. 2 and the Lowell bridge. The carpool lane is expected to be complete in time for the Monday morning commute.

Crews are also scheduled to grind down the surface of southbound I-5 between Broadway and the Lowell bridge over the weekend. That will leave the freeway’s surface uneven for drivers.

Workers plan to add the final layer of asphalt to the segment of the freeway over the next two weeks, if weather permits.
