OHIO STATE: The Ohio State-Michigan football rivalry is about to get even more interesting, now that former Wolverines player Justin Boren has decided to join the Buckeyes.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Boren will sit out the 2008 season as required by NCAA transfer rules.

The sophomore offensive lineman left the Michigan program last month, saying its “family values have eroded” under new coach Rich Rodriguez.

CONNECTICUT: State legislators announced a compromise Wednesday that will allow Connecticut to play a six-game football series with Notre Dame, even though none of the games will be played in Connecticut.

UConn and Notre Dame had been negotiating a 10-game series. The Fighting Irish wanted five of those games played in South Bend Ind., and the five UConn “home” games played at large stadiums in the New York or Boston metropolitan areas — not at the Huskies’ 40,000-seat Rentschler Field. The agreement reached between UConn and the lawmakers would run from 2011-2017, putting three games at Notre Dame, and three at sites in either Boston, New York or New Jersey.

HAWAII: Hawaii has not been able to resolve its dispute with former football coach June Jones over $400,008 the school says it is owed for the early termination of his contract.

The university said it is owed $400,008 in damages, representing half of Jones’ annual salary .
