Isn’t it swell that you can enjoy happy hour at the dentist?

Or can you?

John Joly, a Herald reader for 33 years, sent us the picture on the right after dining with his wife, Judy, at a Mexican restaurant in Mukilteo.

“I’ve always wanted to be a Herald news tipster,” Joly said.

The USS Abraham Lincoln was well represented for three nights on “Jeopardy!” last week.

U.S. Navy Lt. Brett Kirwan, 26, won more than $35,000.

He knew the answers to the final Jeopardy questions: That Elizabeth Barrett Browning was the author of a sonnet and that Gen. George Patton said in a 1944 speech that “Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge.”

Kirwan has degrees in politics and East Asian studies.

He told viewers that he was aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln off the coast of California when he boarded a mail carrier plane to audition in San Francisco.

The show was taped in February. The Lincoln is headed for the Persian Gulf.

A culinary arts student at Edmonds Community College is headed for the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Robert Schaudt, 36, said his wife encouraged him to try a new career, even after he was employee of the year at a car dealership.

He will help prepare food for guests attending the festival as part of an American Pavilion culinary team.

He won’t be looking for beach time. The team will prepare as many as 1,000 meals each day to the press, filmmakers and stars.

Schaudt plans to open his own restaurant, serving tapas, desserts and wine. His favorite dessert is chocolate lava cake.

When we make a mistake, we own up to it.

Even if it happened Dec. 20, 1957.

In that day’s vital statistics column, under births, it reads “Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pettigo, 5812 Cady Rd., girl, Dec. 19.”

It’s Pedigo, and we offer our apologies.

And let’s be glad that in today’s world, women get first names.
