Merry Haven asks for donations

Merry Haven Care Center is in need of donations for Operation Shoebox.

The center needs shoeboxes, Twizzlers licorice, writing paper and pens, instant coffee and creamer, powdered drink mixes, Pop-Tarts, Sodoku books and trial-size shampoos and body wash.

Drop off items Tuesday through May 13 in the marked box in the lobby at 800 10th St., Snohomish.

Event kicks off Bike Month

Community Transit kicks off National Bike Month on Thursday.

Events include:

  • 3 to 6 p.m., Bike to Work &School Kick-off at Community Transit, 2300 Kasch Park Rd., Everett. Get bike maps and advice, see a fix-a-flat and commuter bicycle display, talk to the author of “Biking Puget Sound,” ask questions of Boeing Commute Office staff and more. Bike Commute Challenge teammates can get T-shirts and safety flashers.

  • 6 to 9 p.m., Urban Cycling Skills, 2300 Kasch Park Rd., Everett. Learn bike “driving” skills from an instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists.

    There is a practice session Saturday.

    Historic Everett seeks estate items

    Contribute antiques or other treasures to help raise funds for Historic Everett projects and programs.

    The group plans a sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 at 2112 Rucker Ave., Everett.

    Join the discussion on bringing a performing arts, events and conference center to the Monroe area. Share thoughts about what the center should be like at 6:30 p.m. May 7 at the YMCA, 14090 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe.

    The Accordion Hotshots combo from Stanwood performs at 2 p.m. Thursday at Normanna Hall, 2725 Oakes Ave. in Everett.
