Hard work earns Marysville native spot on TV screen

We don’t get to see her on television here, but Lindsey Davis is a celebrity in Idaho.

It’s her job to deliver the weather forecast on KLEW in Lewiston.

“I’ve wanted to go into broadcasting since I was at Marysville Junior High School,” said Davis, 23. “I was involved in a program called TV3 in Marysville, and that’s how it all started.”

Students had to apply to get into the class and only a few were “hired” in. She worked the audio and video boards, edited, and anchored the news through her senior year of high school.

On a field trip to KOMO-TV in Seattle, she stood on the helicopter landing pad and it felt like home.

With broadcasting on her mind, she headed to Washington State University and its school of communications.

“I enjoyed every minute there and got great experience,” she said “Last summer I had the opportunity to intern at KOMO.”

That opportunity was a dream come true, she said.

She sent out tapes while at KOMO and landed the gig in Idaho.

“I got my job now through a lot of hard work and knowing the right people at the right time. Broadcasting is really competitive, and to get a job you pretty much have to be willing to pick up and move anywhere. I got really lucky because Lewiston isn’t too far from home … and close to Pullman, where I lived for four years.”

Doing the weather is a step in the right direction. She also gets to do some reporting and anchoring and fills in for the news assistant.

“I absolutely love news and working with the community,” she said. “My goal is to be back in Seattle someday.”

Her parents, Randy and Cathy Davis, live on Camano Island. They both teach in Marysville.

“We are in the process of getting a new weather system. Right now I get all my information from the Internet, news wires and by taking a good look outside to observe the skies, cloud type, wind factor … a little bit of everything. Sometimes the Internet can be wrong, so I want to make sure everything seems to match up.”

There’s another part of her job that ladies will like: Every Monday, she gets to pick out a new wardrobe.

When she first got to Idaho, she was often stressed about what she should wear on air. Now she’s the only station employee who gets outfits supplied by Macy’s.

“Every Monday I get to pick out clothes for the week,” she said. “It’s awesome.”
