EVERETT — Drivers should expect to face detours this weekend as four I-5 ramps in Everett are scheduled to be closed for construction.

The state Department of Transportation plans to close the ramps from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, depending on the weather.

The ramps affected are the southbound offramp from I-5 to U.S. 2 and Everett Avenue, the westbound U.S. 2 and Everett Avenue onramps to northbound I-5, and the northbound offramp and southbound onramp at Marine View Drive.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and watch for detour signs if they are headed through the area this weekend.

Signs will guide drivers through detour routes, said Patty Michaud, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.

Drivers hoping to go from southbound I-5 to westbound U.S. 2 or Everett Avenue will be routed south on I-5 to 41st Street, where they will have to exit the freeway and re-enter northbound.

Drivers who plan to go north on I-5 from westbound U.S. 2 or Everett Avenue will be detoured to the Pacific Avenue southbound onramp, where they’ll go to 41st Avenue to exit and re-enter the freeway.

Northbound drivers who plan to exit at Marine View Drive will be asked to exit the freeway earlier, at Pacific Avenue.

The work will allow crews to rebuild the offramps to U.S. 2 and Everett Avenue, resurface the southbound I-5 onramp from Marine View Drive, and add a drainage system and guardrails to the northbound I-5 offramp to Marine View Drive, Michaud said.

Crews will also alternate traffic on Marine View Drive and East Grand Avenue under I-5 to resurface that section of the road.

This weekend’s work is part of a $263 million project to widen I-5 with additional lanes and make other freeway improvements through Everett.

Crews plan to have all lanes and ramps open to traffic by June. For more information, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/HOVSR526toUS2/.
