Marysville

City Council to discuss EMS levy hike

The Marysville City Council plans on Monday to discuss a ballot measure to raise the levy rate for emergency medical services.

The workshop is 7 p.m. at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

Because of the state’s 1 percent cap on property tax increases, the city’s levy rate for emergency medical services has fallen to 34 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. State law allows voters to raise the limit to 50 cents per $1,000 by a simple majority vote.

The council plans Monday to discuss putting the measure on the Aug. 19 primary election ballot.

City looking to award the greatest garden

The city’s Greater Garden Award is up for grabs again, and members of the Mill Creek Arts and Beautification Board will spend the next couple of months searching for a dozen winners.

Board members are planning to drive city streets and photograph properties that stand out, then compare photos to select the best yards.

Contest winners are expected to be named on a plaque inside City Hall, and signs will be posted in their yards through the end of August. Winners will be named at an upcoming City Council meeting.

The contest is meant to recognize people who have put an exceptional amount of time and effort into the beautification of their properties.

Paving considered on Harbour Pointe

Several portions of Harbour Pointe Boulevard might be repaved this year as a temporary solution to fix failing portions of the roadway.

The Mukilteo City Council is scheduled to vote on authorizing the paving project at its meeting at 7 p.m. today at City Hall at 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

The city has roughly $230,000 in this year’s budget available for the work. The project is expected to cost about $200,000.

Several parts of Harbour Pointe Boulevard will eventually need to be rebuilt because the road was not built with an adequate foundation, city officials said. The cost to rebuild the sections of the road could exceed $1 million.
