Readers who have been looking for our weekly celebrations of students, “Super Kid” and “Winners,” will find them Thursday in the Good Life section.
During the school year, these features appear inside our Local section. Starting this week, you can find “Super Kid” on the cover of our new feature section and “Winners” on an inside page of that section.
Kamiak to unveil new band uniforms
A performance and parade is planned Thursday to unveil Kamiak Show Band’s new uniforms. The performance is 6:45 p.m. at the school’s main entrance, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd. in Mukilteo, followed by a parade through the Whidbey Lane and Harbourwood neighborhoods.
The marching band has not had a change in uniforms since the school opened in 1993. During that time, the show band has performed at every high school football game, in parades and in marching band competitions. In addition, the band has performed at the Macy’s Day Parade in New York City, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ireland, President Clinton’s Inauguration, the Festival of Lights in Paris and for opening day of the Mariners at Safeco Field.
Just one year ago, a team of directors, staff, parents and students met to design the new look for the Show Band. Important in the design choice was upgrading to a more contemporary style similar to those of many drum and bugle corps around the country, while still retaining some aspects of the old uniform.
More than $57,000 was raised to purchase the uniforms, with support from the Kamiak student body, parents, the Performing Arts Boosters and the Tulalip Indian Tribes.
